March Gluten Free Finds

Typically I don’t like to eat a lot of processed food – especially of the gluten free variety. It can be expensive and isn’t exactly the healthiest for you, despite what health gurus would have you believe.

However, I am human, and sometimes I just don’t want to go through the effort of making gluten free cookies. Or bread. Or crackers. Especially during busy seasons. So sue me.

Right now I’m in a bit of a slower season, but honestly haven’t felt that inspired to make much from scratch lately except maybe dinner. Plus, we just got a Costco membership, and we’ve been having some fun perusing the numerous gluten free bulk wares they have on hand (they have a surprising amount, actually!). Hopefully once the weather finally warms up and the sun comes back out I’ll feel more up for it.

I suspect that I’m not alone in feeling this lack of baking ambition, especially since making gluten free baked goods from scratch can be a frustrating endeavor reserved for only the most masochistic and stubborn of us all (hi, that’s usually me), so I’ve decided to start a monthly round-up of some of my favorites to share with ya’ll to enjoy.

Without further ado…here were my favorites from March!

Simple Mills Mediterranean Herb Veggie Flour Pita Crackers

We purchased these on a lark while visiting with relatives in Wisconsin a few weeks ago. I was in the mood for a charcuterie type of situation and couldn’t find my go-to fancy gluten free crackers. We found these instead, and were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked them – even my kid enjoyed these and asked for more! They’re seasoned just right, and are sturdy enough to handle dips like hummus if you’re gentle with them.

They’re a fun way to switch up basic crackers, and are actually not too bad for you – winner winner, snacky dinner!

MadeGood Granola Minis (Mixed Berry and Chocolate)

Confession: I’ve tried other MadeGood products before and haven’t been that impressed (like their soft baked cookies…we didn’t care much for those, sorry), but I long admired their commitment to providing good quality, organic, gluten free products.

When I saw a giant bag containing 28 individual bags of Granola Minis at Costco recently, I was intrigued and plopped them into my giant cart. I tried the chocolate ones first – and they were scrumptious! The mixed berry ones were equally as delicious.

I love the fact that my kid can just grab an individual bag and have some modicum of a healthy-ish option in his school lunch in addition to the piece of fruit he usually packs. They’re also great to bring on road trips, hiking, biking, callbacks (yes, callbacks – they helped fuel me through 6 hours of them a few weeks ago!) – you name it.

Could I technically make these myself? Sure, but this way I don’t always have to!

(note: there was a recall earlier this year of their granola bars over presence of a piece of metal in these products; it doesn’t look like the granola minis were impacted)

DiGiorno Gluten Free Frozen Pizza

This definitely is not a healthy option – but there will always be those nights where we just don’t want to go through the effort of cooking, and/or don’t have the time.

Enter: Frozen Pizzas. Unfortunately many gluten free versions I’ve found are….not great. But DiGiorno’s gluten free pizzas?! They are the few, the proud…one of the truly amazing gluten free frozen pizza options available. Hands down.

I hesitated whether to include this one as it can be rather tough to find these at stores. But if/when you do – GRAB THEM. They are BY FAR the BEST gluten free frozen pizzas I’ve EVER had, and are totally worth all of the effort to seek them out. If you’re in Illinois or Wisconsin, you can find them at Woodman’s. They’re also available at other select retailers, which you can locate on the DiGiorno website. Happy Gluten Free Pizza Hunting!
